Wealth Philosophy

How do we help you create and think about wealth?

Why?

University Wealth Advisors (UWA) was specifically created to serve the faculty and staff of select universities in Ohio & Michigan. As a boutique wealth management offering, our “academic approach to wealth management” was crafted with our clients in mind. UWA’s founder & president is a lover of academics, The Classics, and wealth management, which allowed the firm to take shape around these interests.

Historically, universities have been a place for individuals to gather and pursue knowledge. Sir John Henry Newman speaks of universities as, “a place for mutual edification for all those in attendance”. Our firm believes that the more our clients have to invest in their children, education, and philanthropy, the better off we all are. A university education has historically been a driver for upward economic mobility in the United States. This is yet another reason UWA serves clients who are in the “business” of serving the next generation.

The “academic” wealth philosophy entails using current financial data to manage wealth and make financial decisions. We believe in making decisions based on supporting facts, not merely speculating on what the markets will do. Because we plan for the long run, our firm is very pragmatic for the busy professional, who doesn’t want to spend their time pondering the performance of small capitalization equities over the next 6 months…

Philosophy

“…create something beautiful with your life”

Our firm believes that we can help our clients use their financial capital for the betterment of their families, themselves, and society. At the basis of all economic decisions should be moral considerations. While investing can often be thought of as morally neutral or even morally blameworthy, the reality of investing is much different. Through investing in U.S and international markets, clients participate in the creation of wealth as companies produce products and services and make them available to consumers. This, in theory, produces a return on the investment shared back with our clients. Clients then use these funds to save for retirement, plan their children’s education, donate to universities, support their favorite charities, and enjoy financial security.

University Wealth Advisors believes that this can be a morally positive endeavour, when attended to properly. Further, wealth is not purely material but also emotional, mental, and spiritual. Nearly two-thirds of Americans define wealth as having healthy relationships, not money. Capital helps us procure material goods and affirm the immaterial parts of life. By taking part in global wealth creation, defining what is truly valuable, and aiming for the Good, you can create something beautiful with your life.

We can help you do that.

Purpose

University Wealth Advisors donates to The Charis Project for every family that becomes a client of our firm. The Charis Project can be thought of as the cause partner of University Wealth Advisors. That cause is to bring people out of poverty through establishing financial infrastructure and promoting financial literacy & inclusion.

The Charis Project establishes Village Savings and Loan Associations, which provide a safe way for citizens of impoverished nations to access loans and deposit money to earn interest. This is imperative to keeping families away from high interest loan sharks that prey upon those in underdeveloped nations. The Charis Project also teaches these families how to manage their household finances so they can be financially secure.
